I’ve been looking to find a place which does decent pancakes near Bromley for a while, and finally found them @theorpington, which is very surprisingly in Orpington đ
Itâs also listed as the number one breakfast spot nearby according to trip advisor. So really was worth checking out.
Letâs just say that the service was exceptional and super friendly. Little âAlistair foodieâ was also warmly received.
Before getting on to the pancakes, itâs also worth stating that they do one of the best fat whites Iâve had, strong and punchy, people seem to think a flat white is a caffe latte, but itâs not, and having it served correctly concentrated in a small cup is what you need to look out for (should be 2oz coffee to 3-4oz milk).
Anyway, on to the pancakes, this is how I expect them to be served in a breakfast dish, a bit like how they are in the US, more like a layer cake than a pancake. Something to keep you sustained. I love things to be sweet, and that box was ticked nicely with the maple syrup. Also the Crème fraĂŽche, wasnât overly sour which was great, just providing some cream to cut the sugar. The nice little touch was that the banana was covered in hardened caramelised sugar like a crème brĂťlĂŠe. Bonus.
